PETALING JAYA: Datuk Chef Wan's daughter Serina Redzuawan (pic) is appealing to the public to stop sensationalising news of her divorce.

In an Instagram post featuring a collage of her family photos, she explained that she had tried her best to save her marriage to Briton Gavin Edward O'Luanaigh.

"Unfortunately, many sensitive issues that I cannot share publicly happened, leading to the divorce that you are now reading about in the news," she said, breaking her silence on her marital status.

The 33-year-old actress and TV host said that Chef Wan, as her father, had a right to talk about the divorce.

"I hope we don't make a big deal out of this issue, don't add oil to the fire that is already burning," she told her fans yesterday, asking for their support during the court proceedings and reminding them that negative comments and stories might traumatise her children.

The couple, who married in January 2010, have two children - Tristan, six, and Isabella, five.

Last Friday, as speculation swirled over the state of Serina's marriage, Chef Wan made a series of Instagram posts expressing his happiness over Serina's decision to split from O'Luanaigh, 40.

On Monday, O'Luanaigh, whose Muslim name is Salahudin Ghafar, responded with a statement asking that their marital problems and family matters be kept private, without naming Chef Wan.

He said he was devastated when Serina moved out of their home in January 2016 and asked for a divorce.

But he hoped that the problems could be resolved and the marriage saved.

The children, he said, remained in the family home with him.
