LANGKAWI - A 24-year-old German student fell to his death while hiking with three friends near Telaga Tujuh here.

Alexzande Anton Michael died from internal injuries after falling into a 76m-deep ravine at about 3.15pm yesterday.

Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department officer Asst Supt Yaakob Hassan said its rescue team rushed to the scene after being alerted of the incident by one of Michael's friends.

"We reached the scene at 3.50pm and managed to retrieve the body from the ravine about an hour later. The body has since been sent to the Langkawi Hospital for a post-mortem," he said.

Langkawi OCPD Supt Harith Kam Abdullah said according to Michael's friends, he was attempting to take some photographs of the area when he slipped and fell into the ravine.

"It was raining quite heavily at that time and the hiking trail was quite slippery. He was a student at LimKokWing University of Creative Technology in Cyberjaya. We have informed the German Embassy over the incident," he said.
