KUANTAN - A security guard at a bank in Raub has been detained by the police after his pump action shotgun allegedly misfired.

Raub deputy police chief Deputy Supt Ab Rahim Ab Razak said a bank officer heard a gunshot behind his office during the 4.30pm incident on Wednesday.

"The bank officer then found the security guard in a storeroom near the toilet," he said, adding that the guard, in his 50s, claimed that his gun had misfired on its own.

DSP Ab Rahim said the guard had been detained at the Raub district police headquarters. The pump gun has been confiscated for investigation under Section 39 of the Arms Act.

"If convicted, he could be jailed not more than a year or fined up to RM2,000 (S$800), or both, for discharging a firearm in an area outside a shooting range," he said.
