The Star/ANN | Friday, Apr 25, 2014

KOTA KINABALU - A 28-year-old lawyer who went to rescue a litter of puppies inside a metre-deep hole in the ground died from suffocation after getting stuck in the hole.

Jay Ferrer Jeffrey Linjungan (pic) was found by a family member stuck inside the hole near his house in Kg Pisang Babah in Penampang.

His legs were said to be protruding from the opening after he went head first into the 45cm-wide hole.

Penampang district police chief Deputy Supt Ratan Kumar Singh said yesterday that Jay had managed to pull out two puppies from the hole and was attempting to retrieve a third puppy when he got into trouble.

He said Jay's brother had pulled him out of the hole and rushed him to the hospital. Jay was however pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on arrival at 1pm.

Jay, who was admitted to the Sabah Bar in October 2011, will be buried at the Mohingkidon Burial Ground at Kampung Nambazan, Penampang, today after a requiem mass at St Michael Church.
