Man dies of injuries after freak accident

KUANTAN- A senior citizen died of his injuries more than a week after being involved in a freak accident when he kick-started his motorcycle while it was still in gear.

Police said Ismail Awang, 77, had just performed asar prayers at Masjid Al-Tohir in Maran when the incident happened on June 20.

He proceeded to kick-start his Yamaha Sport motorcycle, which was still engaged in gear, and it immediately shot forward and crashed into a concrete stump.

Ismail was thrown off the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries to his head.

He succumbed to his injuries at about 2.50pm on Sunday while being warded at Temerloh Hospital.

In a separate accident on Sunday, a teenager was killed when he crashed into an MPV, which was doing a U-turn at the 18km Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman.

Azmil Ajijul, 18, died on the spot in the 12.10am incident.

Meanwhile, an unemployed man died when his motorcycle and a lorry collided head-on at the 9km Jalan Mempaga-Kampung Lebu, Bentong at about 8.30pm on the same day.

Muhammad Agel Ishak, 21, suffered injuries on the face and died on the spot.
