JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a jobless man for throwing a petrol bomb inside the Johor palace grounds here.

The man, in his 20s, is believed to have trespassed into the palace grounds at around 11.45pm on Friday.

He is believed to have entered the palace area on a motorcycle before throwing the petrol bomb which did not cause extensive damage.

It is learnt that the suspect surrendered to one of the palace guards some 20 minutes later.

Sources said the suspect, who is believed to be mentally unsound, was then handed over to the police.

Police are still investigating how the suspect managed to gain entry into the palace grounds and the motive for the attack.

It is unclear if members of the Johor royal family were at home at the time of the incident.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Kamarul Zaman confirmed the incident but would not elaborate.
