Man killed by his brother during drinking session

The Star/ANN | Sunday, Aug 3, 2014

KOTA KINABALU - A drinking session involving two brothers turned bloody when one of them slashed the other to death with a machete.

The victim, Lojimin Makking, 35, was believed to have bled to death after he was slashed several times by his 29-year-old brother during the 9pm incident on Friday.

Apparently, Lojimin began to run amok halfway through the drinking session, prompting his younger brother to slash him in defence.

Kota Belud district police chief Supt Mohan Nadesan said initial investigations showed that both brothers were drinking outside their house in Kampung Tiong Kamburuan in Kota Belud district, some 140km from the state capital.

"Relatives heard the two men shouting at each other and minutes later, they saw the suspect running out and screaming for help," he said.

Lojimin was found lying in a pool of blood with wounds on his hand and back, he said.

Supt Mohan said Lojimin's body was taken to the district hospital for a post-mortem while his younger brother was held for questioning. He said police would be seeking a seven-day remand today to detain the suspect further.

Police said they needed more time to get details of the incident from the suspect as he was still "sleepy" and couldn't give proper information at the time of the arrest.
