PKR censures Hadi for 'pimp and broker' statement

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang

PETALING JAYA- PKR has censured PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for implying that the party is unscrupulous.

Its vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said Hadi had gone overboard by accusing PKR of "brokering and pimping" to entice PAS assemblymen into supporting PKR's choice of candidate for the Selangor mentri besar post.

"Hadi's outrageous statement does not show the characteristic of an ulama.

"While we support Hadi's firmness in wanting PAS to remain with Pakatan Rakyat during his winding-up speech at the PAS muktamar, we are disheartened by the scathing remarks he made against PKR," he said.

Shamsul said this in response to Hadi's claim that PKR had "bought" two of the PAS assemblymen to support their agenda to nominate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the sole candidate for the Selangor mentri besar post.

PAS' Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib had earlier challenged Hadi to prove that he was bought over by PKR.

"Provide the evidence," he said.

Saari said his only wrongdoing was to help safeguard Pakatan's grip on Selangor and lashed out at the PAS leadership for allowing its members to revile and insult him without knowing the full story.

"There are many Islamic scholars in the party but they allowed a motion to condemn me for my actions, which constitutes as punishment before trial.

"What kind of Islamic party is this?" he said.

Saari and Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin, whom Hadi remarked had been bought over by PKR to support Dr Wan Azizah, were the Selangor PAS assemblymen who signed statutory declarations supporting Dr Wan Azizah on Aug 14, three days before the party was to make an official stand on the mentri besar crisis.

"It was not fair of him (Hadi) to attack me in such a public manner at the muktamar's closing.

"It gives a negative perception to the party members and also puts the party in a bad light," Hasnul said.
