Take stern action against those who sleep at Malaysia's customs: JB MP

The Star/ANN | Sunday, Jul 13, 2014

Free lodging: Some of the Malaysians working in Singapore catching up on sleep at the waiting area inside JB Sentral which is connected to the CIQ.

JOHOR BARU - The issue of Malaysians who commute daily to Singapore for work, but "live" in parts of the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex needs immediate attention, said Johor Baru MP Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.

He said this should not have happened in the first place if the authorities were serious about keeping the place spick and span.

"We have auxiliary police and security guards at the CIQ, and they should be stern and take action against those who spend their nights at the complex," said Shahrir when met at the opening of the school quiz organised by the Johor Baru Sentral Rotary Club at Austin Heights International School here yesterday.

The Star had on Wednesday reported that a large group of Malaysians working in the republic chose to sleep at the complex despite being able to afford to rent a room here.
