Flying a class apart

ANA is upping its inflight menu service for first and business class guests with The Connoisseurs - an in-flight meal team composed of 10 renowned chefs, five liquor and coffee professionals and nine in-house catering chefs.

The national airline of the United Arab Emirates is taking luxury and privacy that is usually only seen in private jets to the masses, well, even if it is only for a selected few.

The Residence by Etihad is the world's only three-room cabin in the sky. Available on its A380 planes, and suitable for single or double occupancy, The Residence has a living room, a separate bedroom and en suite shower room. Guests can chill out on the two-seater reclining sofa and sip champagne from the chilled mini-bar. There is a double bed, upholstered by Poltrona Frau, and a full-length wardrobe in the bedroom.

Guests will also have a personal butler, who has been trained at the Savoy Butler Academy in London, as well as a dedicated VIP Travel Concierge team assigned to them.

The Japanese airline is upping its inflight menu service for first and business class guests with the introduction of The Connoisseurs - an in-flight meal team composed of 10 renowned chefs, five liquor and coffee professionals and nine in-house catering chefs. The airline used to collaborate with well-known chefs only on its routes to North America and Europe, but since last September has extended it to its routes to Asia and China.

Under the programme, guests will be able to tuck into dishes from famed Japanese establishments that taste as good in the air as they are on the ground. The menu, along with the featured restaurants, change every three months. From June to August, the airline is collaborating with chefs from restaurants Tateru Yoshino and Tsujitome, and Michelin-rated restaurants Yonemura and Sekiyo.

The Connoisseurs dining treatment extends to the ANA suite lounges in Narita and Haneda airports, where croissants produced in association with Pierre Herme Paris and Restaurant Wakiya's Original Spicy Dandan Noodles are served.
