Hotels to install flashing doorbells for hearing-impaired

China Daily/ANN | Jin Haixing | Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Beijing.

Hearing-impaired people will be less likely to miss visitors at the door of their hotel rooms in Beijing after the recent launch of a programme to install flashing doorbells.

According to a report by Beijing Daily on Tuesday, the city authorities have ordered the installation of flashing doorbells in three rooms of every hotel registered in the city, ranging from one-star to five-star establishments.

The devices are a service to notify people with hearing disabilities when visitors ring the doorbells of their rooms.

The programme is sponsored by the city's tourism administration and the disabled persons' federation.

When the hotels receive the flashing doorbells, they should install and test their operation soon after choosing the related rooms, the report said.

Before the end of June, the authorities will inspect doorbells have been installed in the hotels.
