NSL train speeds to go up

SINGAPORE - Good news for train commuters: Train speeds on the North-South Line (NSL) are set to go up from later this year.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said this after observing sleeper replacement works along the tracks between Bishan and Ang Mo Kio stations on July 1.

He added the replacement of sleepers that hold the tracks in place should be finished by mid-2015, reported The Straits Times online.

As a safety precaution, train operator SMRT temporarily reduces train speeds along the track where sleepers have been replaced.

Train speeds will be restored after all sleepers along the NSL are replaced, he said.
