Thank you, short-term memories, for making celebrities repeat others' stupid mistakes.
The latest guy to get caught up in a so-stupid-it's-funny sexting-with-a-stranger scandal is Hollywood actor James Franco.
On Tuesday, a 17-year-old Scottish girl leaked his private messages to her on Instagram, asking if he should "rent a room" in a hotel, presumably for both of them.
Student Lucy Clode was in New York City with her mum on a short birthday trip when she queued up for autographs and pictures from Franco and Irish actor Chris O'Dowd, both of whom are currently starring in the play, Of Mice And Men, on Broadway.
Franco allegedly sent the blonde a private message on Instagram after she tagged him in one of her pictures.
"Who are you with? Do you have a bf (boyfriend)? Where are you staying? What's the hotel? Should I rent a room?"
When pressed for evidence that the messages were really sent by the actor, he allegedly sent a picture of himself holding up a piece of paper with the name Lucy.
The 35-year-old was creepily insistent on finding out whether Miss Clode was 18.
The legal age of sexual consent in the US is between 16 and 18, differing from state to state.
