Avoid the crowds and demonstrations in Hong Kong: MFA

AsiaOne | Monday, Sep 29, 2014

SINGAPORE - Singaporeans in Hong Kong should avoid the crowds and ongoing demonstrations, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a travel notice on its website on Monday.

It warned that protests outside Hong Kong's Government Headquarters over the weekend of Sep 27-28 could spread to other parts of the city, causing disruptions to traffic and public transport services, and closures of some schools and businesses.

Those travelling to Hong Kong or residing there should monitor local news and developments closely and heed the instructions of local authorities.

MFA also urged Singaporeans to take all necessary precautions for personal safety, including purchasing comprehensive travel and medical insurance.

Those travelling there are encouraged to e-Register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg.
