'The Best of Singapore': A video series that celebrates Singaporeans

AsiaOne | Saturday, Aug 9, 2014

SINGAPORE - To commemorate Singapore's 49th National Day, a YouTube video series titled "The Best of Singapore" seeks to celebrate and pay tribute to the seemingly ordinary roles in Singapore society that tend to be overlooked.

Produced by The Best of You movement, the videos will feature a wide spectrum of interviewees from all walks of life in Singapore in the hopes of encapsulating the essence of Singaporean culture.

The first video of the series, which was released on YouTube on Aug 7, introduces viewers to Sebastian, 71, a hotel porter at Sheraton Towers; Daniel and Joelle, a couple who serve the nation as Singapore Armed Forces regulars; and Aunty Ping and her son, Jason, who are hawkers at the Chinatown Wet Market.

The Best of You movement aims to encourage people to recognise and appreciate the experiences that have brought out the best in them. By promoting personal affirmation, the movement hopes to inspire a supportive community that celebrates everyday accomplishments and milestones, no matter how big or small they may be.

The movement hopes to get people to share their stories on the things, people and experiences that have brought out the best of them via the-best-of-you.com. Submissions will end Aug 31.

The movement will conclude with an exhibition of selected submissions at Marina Square from Oct 22-26, and in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 28 to Nov 2.
