CNB arrests 92 drug offenders in 4-day sweep

AsiaOne | Friday, Jun 13, 2014

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said it launched a four-day island-wide operation from Monday, "targeting street-level demand and supply of illicit drugs".

A total of 11 suspected traffickers and 81 suspected abusers were arrested, it said in a statement on Friday.

CNB officers and police conducted raids in areas like Bedok, Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Cleminti, Geylang, and Yishun, it said.

Among the "assortment of drugs" seized were 150g of heroin - which CNB said was enough to sustain 70 abusers for a week - and 45g of "Ice". The drugs seized, including cannabis and "Ecstasy" tablets, are worth more than $22,000, the CNB said.

CNB's statement:

CNB maintains enforcement pressure, 92 drug offenders arrested in 4-day island-wide sweep

1. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) launched a four-day island-wide operation from 9 to 13 June 2014, targeting street-level demand and supply of illicit drugs. The operation netted a total of 11 suspected drug traffickers and 81 suspected drug abusers. CNB officers, supported by the Singapore Police Force, conducted raids all over the island, including in areas such as Bedok, Bukit Batok, Bukit Merah, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Eunos, Geylang, Henderson, Jurong, Serangoon, Tampines, West Coast and Yishun.

2. An assortment of drugs were seized from the whole operation, including about 150g of heroin - enough to sustain about 70 abusers for a week, 45g of 'Ice' and small quantities of cannabis, Erimin-5 and 'Ecstasy' tablets. The drugs seized are estimated to be worth more than S$22,000.

Drug Trafficker Arrested in Geylang

3. In one of the raids in this island-wide strike, a unit at Geylang was raided by CNB officers on 9 June at around 3pm. From within the unit, officers recovered about 41g of heroin, 9g of 'Ice' and some Erimin-5 tablets. Drug paraphernalia such as empty zip-lock bags and an improvised drug-smoking apparatus were also seized. A 53-year-old male suspected trafficker and a 33-year-old female suspected abuser were arrested. Both are Singaporeans.

4. Investigations on all the suspected drug offenders are ongoing.

5. This latest island-wide strike is a signal to all drug offenders that CNB will continue to keep up enforcement pressure on the ground; there will be no let-up.
