Mr Gerard Ee will hand over the reins at the Council for Third Age to broadcast veteran Chua Foo Yong.

Mr Gerard Ee will be handing over the reins at the Council for Third Age (C3A) to broadcast veteran Chua Foo Yong.

In a statement on Monday, C3A said that the leadership change is "part of good governance to seek and refresh leadership regularly".

Mr Ee, who was recently appointed the chair and chancellor for UniSim, and is the elected president of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and chairman of Changi General Hospital and the Eastern Health Alliance, will be stepping down from C3A after seven years.

The council said in its statement that it has achieved success in its mission to promote active ageing since being set up by Mr Ee seven years ago. "This is evidenced by the increasing number of seniors seeking new interests and activities to lead an active lifestyle".

It also said that Mr Ee played a key role in leading the council in the shift of its role two years ago, to working with and through partners o benefit seniors.

"Perception of seniors are starting to shift as seniors themselves take greater personal responsibility to empower themselves with various options to lead an active and meaningful life. More and more seniors are recognising that there are many opportunities out there for them to explore to keep themselves engaged," said Mr Ee.

The council said that Mr Ee will continue to be involved with the council through many related community committees.

Madam Chua, who has served on the council since its founding in 2007, is a former CEO of Radio Corporation Singapore, MediaCorp TV, and founder of the Singapore Media Academy.
