Man found dead under metal racks in Pandan Loop

AsiaOne | Friday, Aug 15, 2014

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to an incident involving a man trapped under metal racks Friday morning.

Paramedics assessed that the man had no pulse when they arrived, SCDF said in a statement today.

SCDF said that a fire engine, a red rhino, an ambulance and two support vehicles were dispatched to 230A Pandan Loop after it received the report.

Rescuers found a Chinese man in his 60s pinned under two large metal racks, one on top of another.

The racks, about 1.5m in width and depth, and 4m tall, contained about 70 crates of fruit each, SCDF said.

Rescuers manually removed the crates before lifting the metal racks with the help of two forklifts.

The rescuers had to take extra precaution when lifting the racks, to prevent adjacent racks from toppling as well, SCDF said in the statement.

The man was pronounced dead by the paramedics, and the case has been handed over to police.
