The Straits Times | Saturday, Jun 28, 2014

President Tony Tan Keng Yam presided at the swearing-in of Justice V.K. Rajah as Singapore's eighth Attorney-General yesterday afternoon, with Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon.

Justice Rajah, 57, graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1982, and worked for law firm Rajah & Tann until he left for the Bench in 2004.

In 1997 he was appointed a Senior Counsel and in 2007 he was appointed a Judge of Appeal.

He takes over as Attorney-General from Mr Steven Chong, 56, who returns to the Supreme Court.

Justice Rajah was also appointed yesterday to the Presidential Council for Minority Rights for a three-year term. The council reports on matters, including Bills and other legislation, that may disadvantage a particular racial or religious group.
