Revving up for charity

tabla! | Friday, Oct 24, 2014

Member of Parliament Vikram Nair rode pillion as he joined a group of bikers in their ride from Little India to the Singapore Indian Development Association's (SINDA) headquarters in Beatty Road.

Mr Nair, who is also an adviser in SINDA's board of trustees, and about 200-250 members of a bike group called SG iNDIAN Wheelers were helping to raise awareness for Project Give, the association's annual fundraiser.

Project Give was launched by Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Deepavali light-up ceremony on Sept 12. This year, SINDA aims to raise $500,000 and a donation booth was set up at the entrance of Little India Arcade in Serangoon Road. Both Mr S. Iswaran, Second Minister for Home Affairs and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, and Ms Sim Ann, Minister of State for Education and Communications and Information, visited the booth to support the donation drive.

Project Give aims to raise funds to meet the educational and financial needs of students from low-income families. It also offers Singaporeans, particularly those from the Indian community, an opportunity to show their generosity during the festive season.
