Singapore 'strongly condemns' ISIS murder of British aid worker

AsiaOne | Monday, Sep 15, 2014

SINGAPORE - Singapore has strongly condemned the recent beheading of a British aid worker by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement today.

The MFA described "the barbaric killing" as "deeply reprehensible," and extended its sympathies to the family of Mr Haines.

An MFA spokesperson also said that ISIS is a serious terrorist threat which must be dealt with comprehensively, and that Singapore welcomed the formation of the international coalition to combat ISIS and the declaration by regional Arab countries in Jeddah to stand united against ISIS.

"This is critical to cut off support for ISIS in terms of the movement of fighters, materials and funding as well as the ideological battle," the spokesperson added.
