BBQ chicken and satay hawker Peter Tan, 53, singing his way to the second runner-up prize at the Hawkers' Karaoke King and Queen contest finals yesterday. The hawker from Zion Riverside Food Centre sang a Hokkien song, Last Stop. His prize: a $100 NTUC voucher. Beating him to first runner-up and a $200 voucher was his helper Ong Cheng Boon, 52, with a Hokkien song, Hometown Map.

Herbal chicken soup seller Jack Ng, 57, from Tanjong Pagar Food Centre, was crowned karaoke king. He sang a Mandarin song, Missing You. He won a $300 NTUC voucher.

They were among 12 finalists from hawker centres within Tanglin-Cairnhill and Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru divisions. The contest at the Bukit Merah View Block 115 Market and Food Centre was attended by Senior Minister of State for Law and Education Indranee Rajah, who is also a Tanjong Pagar GRC MP.
