It is all hands on deck at SingPost as it gears up for the peak holiday season - even its senior executives are rolling up their sleeves to assist the front-line staff.
For the first time ever, some 250 management staff of the postal and logistics service provider will be helping out at the front counters of 23 post offices during the period.
From Dec 19 to 24, they will be rostered to be customer service assistants and take on other roles during lunch-time peak hours. The post offices - such as those at Killiney Road and Change Alley - were chosen because of high customer traffic.
One of them is acting general counsel and joint company secretary Winston Wong, 44, who joined SingPost in March.
He will be doing a three-hour shift at the Bukit Batok Post Office on Dec 19 and will help locate parcels before passing them to the front-line staff.
"I'm very happy to be involved in this project," said Mr Wong.
"It's important for us to know the challenges faced by the front-line staff and try to help them as much as possible."
During the year-end holiday season, the volume of Speedpost parcels and mail packets handled by SingPost is generally 10 per cent to 20 per cent higher than an average month, said a SingPost spokesman.
Overall, SingPost processes and delivers over 66 million items per month on average, she said.
The demand for postal services is expected to continue rising because of the rising popularity of online shopping.
"Often, online shoppers would opt for the most economical mode of delivery and that is through the postal network," she added.
SingPost delivery staff will also be working over the weekends.
They will deliver mail packets on all Saturdays this month, and Speedpost parcels on Saturdays and Sundays until the middle of January next year.
SingPost will also deploy 30 more staff to help with Speedpost deliveries.
As in previous holiday seasons, SingPost is encouraging its customers to post their items early.
