Unlicensed property agent fined $16,000

AsiaOne | Monday, Sep 15, 2014

SINGAPORE - Jordan Goh Swee Thye, 48, was convicted in court for unlicensed estate agency work on Wednesday and sentenced to a fine of $16,000, or in default six weeks imprisonment.

The statement from the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) on Monday said that Goh had advertised online a HDB flat in Henderson Road for rental. However, the flat was a HDB rental flat and not supposed to be sublet, and Goh was aware of it.

Goh assisted in sealing the rental agreement and collected $600 commission from both the tenant of the flat and the intended subtenant in 2012.

After HDB took action against the main tenant of the flat for the illegal sublet and repossessed the flat, the subtenant was unable to occupy the flat. The subtenant reported Goh to CEA after he failed to recover rental deposit and commission paid.

CEA said that Goh had knowingly performed agency work when he was not licensed with CEA.
