Woman kicks harasser in India, makes him kneel

The New Paper | Thursday, Aug 14, 2014

A gusty female jogger in Bangalore, India, chased down a man who harassed her, attacked him instead and made him kneel.

Ms Veena Ashiya Chindlur then called the police.

The man ran off but Ms Chindlur's friend managed to capture last Friday morning's incident on her mobile phone.

The police were able to catch the man just minutes after the attack, reported The Bangalore Mirror newspaper.

Ms Chindlur has become a hero in Bangalore and the video has clocked up thousands of views.

Instead of letting the incident pass when the man started harassing her, the victim ran after her attacker, caught up with him, made him kneel on the floor as she kicked him and then reported him to the police.

"Around 9.30am, my friend and I were jogging when he made strange noises and eve-teased me," Miss Chindlur told the Bangalore Mirror.

"Eve-teasing" is an Indian term for public sexual harassment or molestation.

"I tried to scare him by running after him. He tried to flee, but I chased him and hit him. However, he managed to escape," she said. The attacker was identified as a 30-year-old K. R. Suryaprakash, who was arrested 40 minutes after the incident when he was spotted loitering in the area. He is out on bail.

Ms Chindlur posted the video clip on Facebook with a message: "Taught an eve-teaser a tough lesson! I was eve-teased this morning by a guy in a park where I run regularly. I chased him, hit him hard and filed a first information report.

"Police were extremely supportive. I am posting this video for women to know that change will happen only when we want it to happen!"
