Customer called 'fat lady' on Pizza Hut receipt expresses understanding over incident

AsiaOne | Wednesday, Oct 15, 2014

SINGAPORE - The customer who stirred up online outrage after she shared a picture of a Pizza Hut receipt with the words "Pink Fat Lady" on it has accepted the restaurant chain's apology and expressed understanding on the matter.

Pizza Hut Singapore said that they have been in touch with Ms Aili Si and have shared the findings of their investigations with her.

Ms Aili had written on Pizza Hut Singapore's Facebook page that she received the receipt after buying two takeaway pizzas from a Bukit Merah outlet on Oct 12.

She wrote: "I don't think it is nice of your staff to describe me as such on my receipt… As a customer I definitely hope to be treated with basic respect deserved by any others. I hope to receive an apology from the staff and Pizza Hut." She added: "Just feel insulted. What's wrong being plus size? I'm a customer and I pay for my pizza! Not that I'm get it for free!"

Pizza Hut Singapore said that Ms Aili has since "expressed her understanding of the matter, which was a genuine error of judgement with no intent to offend, and has accepted our apology."

"We are grateful for her feedback and as a result, we are taking measures to improve our customer service standards," the organisation said, adding that its management and staff "greatly appreciate her understanding and value her support for Pizza Hut."

On Monday night, Pizza Hut Singapore replied directly to the original post, saying that the incident has "definitely rocked us in our seats."

It later issued an official apology on its Facebook page, saying that the incident "goes against our corporate values and we do not condone behaviour or actions that offend people." It added that it will be taking "corrective measures to continuously improve our standards and consistency in our service and hospitality."
