HK Michelin feast for less than $50

In the debut issue of The Life, the new e-magazine from The Straits Times, find out how to enjoy a Michelin-starred feast in Hong Kong, but at prices you would not expect.

Life! food critic Wong Ah Yoke visited four one-star eateries that ranged from a mid-market Hangzhou restaurant in Wanchai to a dimsum eatery in North Point. At each place, the bill was less than HK$300 (S$48) a person.

For example, at Hong Zhou Restaurant in Wanchai, he dined on an excellent drunken pigeon and a melt-in-the- mouth tender braised pork belly or Dong Po pork.

His six- course meal at the restaurant, which has been awarded one Michelin star for five consecutive years since 2010, came up to HK$1,234 for his party of five.

At Hung's Delicacies in North Point, a 10-course meal for five, which included marinated goose, layered pig's intestine in aspic and marinated bean curd and duck tongue in Chinese liquor flavour, came up to HK$871.
