Pizza Hut apologises after customer gets called 'fat lady' on receipt

AsiaOne | Tuesday, Oct 14, 2014

SINGAPORE - Pizza Hut Singapore has issued an apology on its Facebook page after a customer found the words "Pink Fat Lady" written on her pizza takeaway receipt at a Bukit Merah outlet.

The customer, whose Facebook name is Aili Si, wrote on Pizza Hut Singapore's Facebook page that she received the receipt after buying two pizzas.

She wrote: "I don’t think it is nice of your staff to describe me as such on my receipt… As a customer I definitely hope to be treated with basic respect deserved by any others. I hope to receive an apology from the staff and Pizza Hut."

She added: "Just feel insulted. What's wrong being plus size? I'm a customer and I pay for my pizza! Not that I'm get it for free!"

On Monday night, Pizza Hut Singapore wrote on its Facebook page that it "would like to apologise unreservedly to Ms Aili Si for a recent incident that took place on 12 Oct 2014 at 6.01pm."

"This incident goes against our corporate values and we do not condone behaviour or actions that offend people," said the post, which was signed off as written by the management and staff of Pizza Hut Singapore.

"We deeply regret that such an incident has occurred and are attempting to contact Ms Si to personally express our sincere apologies. We will take corrective measures to continuously improve our standards and consistency in our service and hospitality," it added.

It also replied directly to the original post, saying that the incident has "definitely rocked us in our seats."

The organisation said that it is currently investigating the matter.
