Football: Park Ji-sung returns to Old Trafford as club ambassador

AsiaOne | Monday, Oct 6, 2014

Former Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung returned to Old Trafford yesterday as club ambassador, with Sir Alex Ferguson joining him on the pitch before the Red Devils took on Everton in their seventh Premier League match of the season.

The South Korean joins Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Andrew Cole, Denis Law and Bryan Robson on the list of the club's ambassadors.

Now 33, Park played for United for seven years before announcing his retirement from football in May this year.

As a Red Devil, he won four Premier League titles, three League Cups, one Champions League title and one Club World Cup.

He is the first Asian player to have won the Champions League and the Club World Cup.

He said in a statement released by United: "I have fond memories of my time at Manchester United and I am delighted and honoured to have become an ambassador for the club.

"Some of the best moments of my life and career were spent here and I will never forget the great support I had from the Club and the fans. I am looking forward to once again representing United and sharing some of these memories with our global fanbase."

Part of his new role involves attending various events and functions on behalf of the club and promoting its work within the community and with commercial partners.

United beat Everton 2-1 last night with goals from Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao - his first for the club - for the home side and from Steven Naismith for the Toffees.
