King Kong predicts Argentine victory

The Star/ANN | Sunday, Jul 13, 2014

Argentina's forward and captain Lionel Messi celebrates after scoring his team's second goal during the Group F football match between Argentina and Bosnia Hercegovina at the Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janeiro during the 2014 FIFA World Cup on June 15, 2014.

PETALING JAYA - Following the demise of Paul the octopus - which correctly predicted the winner of the last World Cup, King Kong the parrot has picked Argentina to win in Rio de Janeiro.

The parrot, which currently resides in Sunway Lagoon's Wildlife Park, has chosen Argentina by picking out one of the four balls presented to it.

The first ball it took contained a miniature of the Argentinian flag.

Sunway Lagoon claimed that the parrot had accurately predicted Germany's win over Brazil in the semi-final round as well as foresaw Argentina's advancement into the final.

King Kong made the prediction during an interview with Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Park Manager V. Krishnan at a local Tamil radio station. A video of the interview has since gone viral on YouTube.

Paul, which lived at an aquatic centre in Germany before dying in 2010, had correctly predicted all the seven matches that the cephalopod's host country played in the 2010 World Cup, even the one where it lost to eventual winner Spain.

The animal had made its prediction by choosing to eat out from one of the two boxes adorned with flags of the two countries.

"While King Kong's prediction of the South American win at the World Cup may not be scientific, he has accurately predicted previous outcomes of the tournament," he said.
