Lam in the groove with 69

The New Paper | Godfrey Robert | Friday, May 30, 2014

Lam Chih Bing carried on the good work from where he left off last Sunday with a brilliant two-under 69 to lead the Laguna National AutoInc/SPGA Invitational at Laguna National's World Classic yesterday.

Lam (above), who shot a 66 last Sunday to finish third in an Asian Development Tour event in Johor, is two shots ahead of two seasoned pros - Australian Unho Park and Singapore No. 2 Quincy Quek - in the 49-player field.

The fourth three-day event of the year staged by the Singapore Professional Golfers' Association is set for an interesting duel in the next two days as Australian Scott Barr, an Asian and European Tour veteran, and national representative Lam Zhiqun are a further shot behind on 72.

Singapore's No. 1 Mardan Mamat opted out to play in an ASEAN PGA Tour event, which tees off today at the Ayer Keroh Country Club in Malacca.

Also playing in Malacca is Choo Tze Huang, who is among the 12 players in the Singapore team for the Causeway Cup at the challenging World Classic next month.

Dino Kwek, a former Singapore representative, strung a brilliant back-nine two-under 34, to lead the senior division by two shots from Khalid Yusoff
