PENANG: The three bones recovered at a Chinese Cemetery in Paya Terubong have been confirmed to be those of a child?s.

Forensic pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh, who examined them, found them to be from the neck and arm.

The bones, together with four bone fragments and some burnt clothing, will be sent to the Chemistry Department today for DNA analysis to determine if they belonged to three-year-old Shearwey Ooi Ying Ying.

Blood samples were also obtained from Ying Ying's father, Eng Chew, 29, and mother, Jess Teh, 28.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said a statement had been obtained from Eng Chew following his return home from China. Eng Chew was in China on a business trip and arrived in Penang on Monday night.

"The father told us that he was informed of his daughter's death but was in the dark about how she died," Supt Mohd Hatta said.

"Police got their first break after finding discrepancies in the mother's report made on Friday," he told a press conference on Monday.

The police had called the mother to give another statement as they found it hard to accept that she would leave her daughter standing outside a car and walk 100m to pay a parking ticket.
