THE Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has crippled a drug ring with overseas supply links, by arresting a syndicate leader in an ambush in Yishun.

The raid, conducted over the weekend, hauled in over $8,000 worth of ketamine, ice, Ermin-5 and Ecstasy tablets, said CNB on Monday.

The ring leader's BMW car was also seized.

Acting on a tip-off, CNB officers arrested the 61-year-old syndicate leader after he arrived at a condominium unit in Yishun at midnight on Sunday.

The man, who is a general manager of an import and export business, had just returned from an oversea trip to collect drugs.

Officers found packets of drugs on the man, in his car and in the condo.

CNB officers also raided a Yishun HDB flat later that night, arresting a 41-year-old unemployed woman and seven drug buyers.

Both suspects are under investigation for drug trafficking offences.

If convicted, the man faces a minimum of five years in jail and five strokes of the cane, while the woman can be jailed up to five years, if convicted.
