A MAN was fined $6,000 and banned from driving for three years on Monday for causing the death of a motorcyclist.
Lee Fook Sin, 59, an Institute of Technical Education senior lecturer and mentor, admitted failing to give way to Mr Wang Kek Suan, 39, when he made a right turn from Yio Chu Kang Road into the slip road leading to Tampines Expressway on Dec 11 last year.
He thus encroached into the path of the motorcyclist, resulting in a collision.
Mr Wang was conscious when he was taken to hospital, but he died 10 days later.
Lee said in his written mitigation that he had been driving for the past 40 years, and this was his first serious traffic offence.
He said his job demanded a lot of responsibility, safety consciousness and care at all times.
He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for causing death by doing a negligent act.
