A CHINA national who lied that he had a diploma in cooking from a Shandong vocational school was jailed for eight weeks on Wednesday.

Yu ZhengZhe, 36, admitted to making false statements in his application for an S Pass to work as a cook for two companies in December 2004 and August 2005. He had in fact paid RMB40,000 (about S$8,000) to a China agent to arrange his eventual employment in Singapore, including getting a forged graduation certificate.

He was found out in February this year when a Singapore consular officer in Beijing checked and received written confirmation from the school that the diploma was not genuine.
