KAJANG: Two men believed to be involved in the hijacking and robbery of a security van carrying RM4.5mil have been released on police bail.
Another seven suspects, including five guards who were on duty when the hijacking occurred, had their remand extended till today.
A police spokesman said there was no new arrest and that investigations were on-going.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the closed-circuit TV recording taken from the Tesco Hypermarket in Saujana Impian where the hijacking occurred was deemed not helpful because the crime took place out of the camera's view. It is also learnt that the Perodua Kelisa used in the robbery was stolen a week ago.
The case is being investigated under Section 392 and 397 of the Penal Code for robbery.
On Sept 29, two men hijacked a security van at gunpoint and drove it to the Bukit Duyong rest and recreation area two kilometres away before transferring the bags containing the cash to another car.
However, their Kelisa proved to be a bit too small and the robbers had to settle for only six bags containing RM1.8mil, leaving the remaining nine bags containing RM2.7mil in the back of the van.
