BANTING, MALAYSIA: The remains of newborn baby was found in front of a mosque in Teluk Panglima Garang town on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the one-week-old baby, with umbilical cord still attached, may have died a few days ago.

Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Zulkifli Mohamed said the body of the baby girl was found by a mosque caretaker when he was cleaning the mosque compound in the evening.

"He spotted a sports bag and opened it to check. He was shocked to find the body of a dead baby inside the bag and reported it to the police immediately," he said.

Supt Zulkifli said the body had been sent to the Banting Hospital for a post-mortem.

He urged members of the public who had any information about the baby to come forward.
