KUALA LUMPUR: The tears flowed freely when abused Indonesian maid Siti Hajar met her older sister for the first time in three years yesterday.

It was the only thing that Siti and Nani Suriani could do during the first few minutes as they cried and hugged each other when they were reunited at the Indonesian embassy. Neither could say a word as raw emotion and relief took over. When they managed to say anything at all, in between sobs, it was about how they had missed each other.

Siti, who was discharged from University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) yesterday morning, was still sporting bandages on her neck and hands.

The 33-year-old had been warded at UMMC for four days after her escape from the hell that was her employer's home in Mont Kiara.

Speaking to reporters when the sisters managed to catch their breath at the emotional reunion, Siti said she was glad Nani was with her as the two were close.

Nani is the eldest of four siblings.

Recalling her abuses, Siti said: "I could only say Allahuakhbar each time my former employer assaulted and did things to me. I always asked God when the suffering would end.

"Thank God, it is all over. I want justice to be served. I will let the police and the embassy handle this matter."

Nani said the sisters were separated when Siti came to Malaysia to work.

She said family members had tried to look for Siti but all attempts had ended in failure.

Nani said the family was shocked to hear about what had happened to Siti when the embassy contacted them and from media reports.

"It is crazy what happened to her. Only an immoral person would do such a thing."

Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia Tan Sri Da'i Bachtiar said the embassy would provide whatever assistance necessary to police.

He said the embassy was waiting for a complete report from police and the hospital before Siti could be sent home to Garut in West Java.

For the time being, Siti will be placed in a home prepared by the embassy.
