Rear Admiral (RADM) Chew Men Leong will take over from RADM Ronnie Tay as Singapore's Chief of Navy on August 31, 2007, says a press statement from Mindef.

39-year-old RADM Chew, who is currently the Chief of Staff (Naval Staff), joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1985. During his military career, RADM Chew held the appointments of Head Naval Operations Department; Fleet Commander; Head Joint Plans & Transformation Department; Commander, 1st Flotilla; Commanding Officer, 188 Squadron and Commanding Officer, RSS Vigour.

The outgoing RADM Tay, who has been Chief of Navy since April 1, 2003, will next attend the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, France before returning to the Administrative Service.

This change of command is part of the continuing process of leadership renewal in the SAF.
