OVERSEAS Singaporeans are being invited to give their views on the National Day Rally speech, which Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be delivering tomorrow.

For the first time, Government feedback unit Reach is working with the Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU) to ask overseas Singaporeans to e-mail it their feedback.

Those abroad are also invited to participate in an e-townhall meeting chaired by Reach chairman Amy Khor and Minister of State (Education) Lui Tuck Yew to discuss the rally. It will be held on Tuesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Urging them to participate in the event, Dr Khor said: 'It is important to let them know that they are not forgotten and that their views are important because Singapore is, ultimately, their home.

'To ensure the Singapore they return to is what they hope it to be, they should be active in giving views to help shape our national policies.'

At the same time, Reach has organised a feedback channel for Singaporeans to send in their views on PM Lee's speech via SMS. They can start doing so when the telecast begins, until next Saturday. They can send their views to 9-Speak-Up (9-773-2587), in English, Chinese or Malay.

Previously, this service was available only in English.

Dr Khor said that extending it to Chinese messages would allow the Government to engage a wider segment of the population, including Mandarin-speaking heartlanders.

The feedback will be channelled to the government agencies tasked with implementing the key policies announced during the rally, Reach said.
