Income gap a key focus of PM's National Day Rally speech

In his National Day Rally speech later this evening, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will focus on the widening income gap in Singapore.
As part of the government's strategy to tackle the income divide, PM Lee will announce improvements to the Central Provident Fund (CPF) and housing - two key aspects of the social safety net in Singapore.
The Prime Minister's press secretary, Mr Chen Hwai Liang, said that education will be another key aspect and PM Lee will assure Singaporeans that every child here will get a quality education, according to a report in The Straits Times today.
Mr Lee is also expected to touch on the ageing issues in Singapore - in particular, how to help Singaporeans have a longer working life to generate more savings for retirement.
The Prime Minister will deliver his National Day Rally tonight at the University Cultural Centre, NUS. He will commence with the Malay and Mandarin speeches at 6.45pm, and speak in English at 8 pm.
