TWO men were jailed on Tuesday for having the largest haul of codeine ever seized for sale.

Kee Hsiao Hsien, 38, was given three months' jail while Ang Chee Keong, 23, got five months for illegally having the cough mixture for sale at Eunos Avenue 8 on July 5 last year.

Ang has a previous drug trafficking conviction.

Acting on information, a team of officers from the Centre for Drug Administration of the Health Sciences Authority and police raided the premises at Richfield Industrial Centre for illegal distribution of codeine cough mixtures.

They found the two with eight metal barriers and 99 canisters each containing about four litres of dark brown liquid, believed to be cough mixture.

Both men admitted that they were paid $80 a day to help an unknown man transfer liquid and syrup from metal barrels to plastic canisters.

Pressing for a jail sentence, HSA prosecutor Ngoo Chih Min said the 2,000 litres of cough mixture seized had an estimated street value of $160,000. The duo were part of what appeared to be a syndicate.
