ARREST on sight - this is the latest global alert that Interpol has sent out as part of a worldwide bid to capture terrorist Mas Selamat Kastari, who has been on the run for four days now since his daring escape from a high-security detention centre on Wednesday afternoon.

The red alert followed an Orange Notice it posted on its website on Thursday, after it received a request from the Singapore government to find the escaped leader of Singapore's wing of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

JI has been blamed for a string of bombing attacks, mostly in Indonesia, including the 2002 nightclub bombings on the resort island of Bali that killed 202 people.

Mas Selamat, 47, fled from a toilet in the Whitley Road Detention Centre on Wednesday afternoon, sparking a massive manhunt, which has been extended worldwide. The government has said a 'security lapse' led to his escape.

Interpol's Orange Notices are issued by its general secretariat in Lyon, France, for any event posing a risk to the safety and security of citizens worldwide. It means that the fugitive's photograph and fingerprints will be issued to each of the world police group's 186 national central bureaus.

Red alert allows for warrants for arrest to be circulated internationally and the extradition of the wanted person, according Interpol's website.

The poster says he is wanted for 'terrorism' offences, and that warrant for his arrest was issued by Singapore and Malaysia.

Mas Selamat escaped on Wednesday at 4.05pm after he asked to go to the toilet while he was being led to the visitors section to meet his family.

Thousands of posters on Singapore's most wanted man have been plastered in public places seeking the public's help to track down the militant, who is 1.58m tall and walks with a limp on the left leg.

Police on Saturday also sent out two more photographs of him, showing his side profiles, in addition to the earlier two showing him with moustache and without.
