BEACHES and reservoirs in Singapore will be made safer and cleaner based on World Health Organisation guidelines.

The more stringent standards were released on Wednesday by the National Environment Agency.

NEA will grade the hygiene levels of recreational water environments based on two microbes in the water: Enterococcus, a bacterial found in feces, and Chlorophyll-a , which is found in algal blooms.
