A SERVICE engineer was standing on a ladder at the bottom of a lift shaft in Jurong West servicing the rollers when it descended on him and killed him.

At a coroner's inquiry on Wednesday into the death of Mr Bhuwan Chandra, 42, the court heard that he had gone to Jurong West Central 1 with three of his workers from Fujitec (Singapore) Corporation on May 9 last year to change some wires of the other lift - Lift B - after a resident had complained about noisy operation.

While servicing it, the father of two realised that there was some noise emitting from Lift A and decided to service it as well.
