Here are hip ways to keep celebrating till the new year. -myp
1 CATCH UP WITH CONTROVERSIAL ARTISTES Grammy-nominated Atlantabased artiste Soulja Boy Tell'em has been dissed by Ice-T for "killing hip-hop" but he has been defended by Kanye West. His second album, iSouljaBoyTellem (released in stores in Singapore on Monday), dishes out information on family relationships, hits out at detractors, and calls for the 18-year-old's chum, Gucci Mane, to be released from prison. - JILL ALPHONSO 2 GET FUNKY, ASIAN-STYLE Taiwanese pop stars Da Mouth are known as Asia's Black Eyed Peas, and they won the best group award at the Golden Melody Awards earlier this year. The group releases its new album, Playa, next Monday. Okay, the beats aren't totally original, but at least they're bold and brassy, as they play with genres of nu-skool, big beat and funk. - JA 3 DOWNLOAD MUSIC Home-grown online digital music- rental store, Geetune.com, has over 150,000 music tracks for rent. From now until Jan 15, the first 500 users who sign up for Geetune.com's personal computer or mobile plans will get a 75-per-cent discount on subscription rates for the first month at $2.99 and $4.99, respectively. Visit www.geetune.com. sg/promo/ for more details. - KENNY CHEE 4 ESCAPE WITH FRANK MILLER The Spirit (rated PG), by comic- book writer and artist Frank Miller, features Gabriel Macht as a supercop who's part of the living dead. Watch for Macht's womanising ways with Eva Mendes (who plays a feisty jewel thief) and Sarah Paulson (as a lovelorn physician). The movie suffers from long-winded dialogue, but the stylistic Miller graphic-novel feel makes up for it. - YONG SHU HOONG 5 LEARN MORE ABOUT CSI Fans of crime series CSI can learn more about forensic science on TV show Crime Scene University (CSU). It chronicles the trials and tribulations of 12 forensic-science students training under the guidance of forensic DNA analyst Robert Shaler. "CSI is a drama, not real life. Real forensics deals with human emotions and scientific facts," Dr Shaler, 66, told my paper. Catch it tonight at 10pm on the Discovery Channel (StarHub Ch 12). -VICTORIA BARKER 6 WATCH NICOLE AND HUGH GET IT ON The movie Australia (rated PG), which opened yesterday, combines romance, drama and adventure. Nicole Kidman plays an English lass who endures the heat and dust of the Australian outback to manage her late husband's land. She's (ahem) assisted by a local stockman (Hugh Jackman) who gets to flaunt his hairy chest quite a bit. - YSH 7 GAIN INSIGHT INTO THE YEAR AHEAD FOR ASIA Intellectuals will want to tune in to BBC World News (StarHub Ch 13) tomorrow at 5.10pm. On a special episode of The World Debate Series, an international panel discusses a range of themes crucial to Asia, including whether the global economic downturn will accelerate the shift of power from the West to the East. - JA 8 CATCH UP ON POPULAR TV SERIES Are you lost when it comes to the plot twists on Golden Globe-winning series Lost?
