Did you know that there is a specific period for putting up the Singapore flag on buildings? That no other flags or emblems should be displayed to its left, or that it should not be hung out with laundry?

Each year, as national day draws near, there are people who will display their flags in a variety of ways, some right and some wrong.

A reader, Catherine Zee has spotted some early birds who have put up the flag very promptly, but in their haste, hung all the flags the wrong way round.

For the record, the crescent moon and five stars should be on the top left of the flag.

Today happens to be the first day of the year that Singaporeans and private organisations can display the flag outside their homes and office buildings. On all other days other than from July 1 to September 30, it should only appear on a flag pole.

According to the Singapore Arms and Flag and National Anthem Act, it is possible to be fined up to $1,000 for displaying the flag in the wrong manner.

So please, don't hang them the way they are hung in the pictures below.
