WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has won the battleground state of New Mexico, in another blow to Republican rival John McCain, three US television networks reported Tuesday.

Through the campaign, New Mexico's large bloc of Hispanic voters gave Obama an edge in the state - which carries five electoral votes - even though McCain's home state of Arizona is next door.

George W. Bush narrowly beat Democratic Senator John Kerry there in 2004, 49.8 percent to 49.0 percent.
