TEHRAN - Iran's electoral body, the Guardians Council, insisted on Tuesday that the file on the disputed presidential election was closed after it confirmed the victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
"The Guardians Council announced its final decision on the election last night, following which the election file is closed," council spokesman Abbasali Kadkhodai told reporters.
Asked if the defeated candidates could pursue their demands for the election to be cancelled, Kadkhodai said: "They cannot object or protest in any other way.
"The Guardians Council is the final authority on the election and we announced our decision unanimously," he added.
The council certified Ahmadinejad as the winner of the June 12 vote following a partial recount after the opposition led by his main challenger, Mir Hossein Mousavi, said the election was rigged.
