From January 2009, Singaporean students who turn 15 this year can register for their National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) at their own schools instead of going to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) Building.

Under a joint initiative by ICA and Ministry Of Education (MOE) to streamline the process for NRIC registration, ICA will dispatch mobile registration teams to MOE-registered secondary schools who have made the necessary appointments with ICA to conduct the registration for eligible applicants.

Previously, students were required to turn up personally at the ICA Building in order to register.

This new streamlined process will reduce the time needed for NRIC registration for each student to less than five minutes per registrant. Students will also be required to bring fewer documents, needing only to bring along their School Smart Cards as a form of authentication and the completed registration forms.

More than 48,000 students from 167 schools will benefit from this joint initiative.
